Can a hotel in Italy charge for Wi-Fi?

I'm currently in a hotel in Italy, and the hotel is now charging everyone €1. It's not written anywhere, and it wasn't communicated that way at the beginning. If they had said it up front, or if it had been written in the Wi-Fi password in the entrance area, I wouldn't have a problem with it. But using it during my stay sounds to me like a way to get even more money out of my pocket. Does anyone know if this is legal? Best regards.

As long as you have not been promised anywhere before, you can use the Wi-Fi for free, they can also take money for it.

This is nowhere and it has not been communicated in the beginning.

Well, if there's nothing written about breakfast in the contract, you can't assume it's free.

In the contract is written what is included in the price and not what is not included.

That's all right.
