Can't lock car anymore?

Hello,

I can no longer lock my girlfriend's Tiguan with the remote key. Neither the primary key nor the backup key are recognized. I've already replaced the battery, but the same problem still exists. It's only recognized when you hold it under the steering wheel and then try to start it.

What could be the reason?

Maybe a weak car battery, since only driven short distances?

If changing the battery takes too long, the key must be re-programmed. This is done via the door lock. Remove the cap, insert the key into the door lock, and lock it for 5 seconds. Then remove the key. The key will now be recognized again.

If it doesn't work the first time, remove the battery from the key, wait 10 seconds, reinsert it and repeat the process above.

I also have a remote key lying around that doesn't work anymore. If it breaks, it'll be expensive.

It could also be the receiver. The engine still starts, though.

But if the immobilizer no longer works via the remote key, there's nothing you can do except take it to the workshop.
