Bundeswehr – Questions about basic training?

Good evening,

I'm 17 and wanted to join the Bundeswehr when I was around 20 because I was really inspired and I'm athletic. My question is, how long would it take to complete basic training? My second question is, can I become a soldier right after basic training? Ideally, I'd like to be stationed in other countries because it would be better! It would be great if you could tell me what else I should keep in mind or give me some more information! Thank you 🙂

because I was really inspired and I'm sporty.

I don't know how many times it's been said here, but athleticism shouldn't be overrated. Various other factors are more important.

how long it would take until I could pass the basic training

You obviously haven't thought much about the topic yet.

The GA lasts three months, after which everyone usually continues, including moving to their respective home unit.

As already mentioned, you are already a soldier during basic training.

It is not possible to predict with certainty whether the person will be deployed abroad, as this depends on factors such as career, branch of the military/unit, etc.

Basically, you go where the Bundeswehr needs you, where there are permanent positions, etc. So theoretically, it could also be somewhere in Germany, deep in the provinces.

what else should be considered or give me more information

Depending on the career path you are aiming for, your focus should not only be on the sporting aspect; for example, your school leaving certificate is also relevant if you want to start a real career with the Bundeswehr.

If you have any further questions about the Bundeswehr, please ask. The topic is too complex to just randomly throw out information here. That would go beyond the scope.

Hey you,

So you are a soldier from day one in the Bundeswehr.

The basic training usually lasts three months.

A lot has changed since I was in the service, though. It's best to get proper advice from them. They'll show you all the possible positions, help you determine which areas interest you most, and give you a better perspective.

Even though it can be a dangerous job, I can definitely recommend this phase of your life. You get to deal with things you'd otherwise never come into contact with. I personally have benefited greatly from it and feel relatively "defensible" even in these current times.

All the best to you!

whether you can become a soldier directly after basic training?

You're already a soldier during basic training. Or do you think you'll be allowed to use military weapons as a civilian?

Positions for deployment abroad are rare and usually staffed. A deployment abroad has nothing to do with a deployment, such as in Mali. They are two different things.
