Both rabbits die overnight?
Hello folks,
P.S. It's been about a month since they both died, but I haven't had the energy to think about it yet.
So.. where do I start.
I had two lionheads, a neutered buck and a doe; they were half-siblings.
Both were given fresh fruit and vegetables every day, herbs, and occasionally a little dry food (grain-free! For example, sunflower seeds, oatmeal, etc.). They also received fresh water and hay, and occasionally a large portion of fresh grass. Very rarely, they also received their favorite food, a banana.
Every day when I was with them, I checked to see if anything was wrong, if their eyes, nose, etc. were okay, etc.
Well, okay.
The doe showed no signs of going away soon or of anything being wrong with her. The next day when I went to see her she was lying dead and to this day I don't understand why.
Well, of course, the first thing you think is that you need a new rabbit and quickly. I took care of it that same day and found one. We could have picked up the doe the following week.
Another thing I thought about was that Khaleesy (the doe) might have an illness. To make sure Nando (the buck) was healthy, I went to the vet the next day, where he was examined thoroughly. Nothing was found. According to the vet, he was doing more than well.
For the next 1.5 days everything was fine but after about 2 days it started. He suddenly had no desire to live anymore and showed no reaction or anything else. Since it was Sunday I couldn't go to the vet again.
Yes and… then the big shock, on Monday morning at around 6 a.m. he too died.
And I don't understand why both of them died and, above all, of what.
I didn't take Nando to the vet to have him examined just to be funny.
Do you have any idea what could have caused it or what caused it?
P.S. It can't be old age, since they both turned 2 just a few days ago.
An autopsy was definitely out of the question for me.
Thanks.
A virus attack with a sequence of death is of course never completely excluded.
In my knowledge, rabbits are very sensitive to their diet.
They are heavily dependent on ballasts, not surprising, as they – or better their wild artisans – mainly eat in a natural environment. This means they are dependent on hay or special pellets produced for rabbits.
Whether fruits and grains are ideal here should be exploited.
Aside from the diet, rabbits are also very stress-prone. Did something change in the environment just before her death, changed noise sources (e.g. audible, longer-lasting building noises) or hectic in the immediate vicinity?
Maybe Nando didn’t get the loss of his sister.
Finally, genetic reasons can also be based on the whole. After all, they were half siblings.
Anyway, I’m very sorry for you that you lost your rabbits in no time.
Hello, thanks for the answer. Since they’ve been with me, we’ve had construction noises, and they seemed to be pretty good at it, as they have noises to do with construction sites since they were born. Since we can live in a dachwohnung there can actually be nothing bleak about which they were afraid, they were generally both not really anxious.
You say that rabbits are very sensitive to diet, and then recommend the worst beginners mistakes that a rabbit can even kill. They are not dependent on hay or pellets.
Hello 🙋🏽
I suspect a disease. Most, for example RHD1 and 2, are particularly local. The disease may also be known to you under the name of China. When a rabbit is infected, everyone dies.
However, the animals are usually apathetic and do not eat properly.
However, coccids could also be the causes. These are parasites that damage the intestine but there are also coccids that infest the liver.
Signs are, for example, that the animal makes a lot of appendix jersey but does not eat it.
Dear Greetings I hope I could help you
These animals have a lower life expectancy than humans, of which half died several animal generations during a human generation, which is sad but not to others.
This is certainly known to the FS, but life expectancy is longer than 2 years.
Then maybe the food mix was bad.
What a genius! Everywhere you’re put, you’re indulging!
But now you’re far away from the question of entry, you’re probably a little
Come on, go to the sandbox. Do you need a few more balls, a bucket and a bucket?
And you silly
Why should I be ashamed? You’re never 75 years old, I’m deadly!
A 75-year-old man doesn’t write like a defensive toddler.
And now you’re still as unbelieving, ashamed
You are certainly still moist behind your ears!!! Your grandpa may be 75 years old.
You mean, you’d better be smart as a psychic.
You are certainly not 75 years old, you are 15 years old.
An adult would never write like you.
I’m 75 and you have a disturbed relationship with animal husbandry like the FS too, you don’t have animals for fun!
We don’t eat family members!
It doesn’t matter that you’ve been holding rabbits since your childhood because I don’t know how old you are. My glass ball’s just a bit beaten!
With us, the rabbits are very old, as we keep them art-friendly. These wonderful animals deserve that too!
I keep rabbits since my childhood and also breed them very old, because they taste too good and are BIO
I’m not a psychic, but we’ve been holding rabbits for over 30 years.
Calls for experience!
The indication of the symptoms suggests that the rabbits were not vaccinated.
How long have you been holding rabbits??
By the way, my friend has been a senior physician for pets in an animal clinic near Munich for many years. She is a recognized rabbit expert!!!
The FS hasn’t written of vaccinated or unimpeded, so even a guess of you? You should act psychic.
The feed mixture was probably not bad!
I strongly assume that the rabbits were not vaccinated and therefore died.
Rabbits can be up to 14 years old with good posture.
Our rabbits always come from animal welfare, so usually from extremely poor posture, and are still up to 12 years old.
Were the rabbits vaccinated against RHD and RHD2? If not, it could be the cause.
So at the second, it may have been the broken heart. He was certainly so sad about the loss of his companion that he simply didn’t want without you anymore. Easy.
I also had this experience with mine. The little ones are always together. This is not the case for some people!
Can it be that both rabbits were not vaccinated against RHD1, RHD2 and myxomatose?
This is absolutely necessary for rabbits once a year.
If you’re not ready to inoculate your rabbits, please don’t pick up any rabbits, as this can happen again at any time.
The vaccination for two rabbits is not exactly favourable. You have to pay at least EUR 50 per rabbit.
Maybe an uncovered contagious disease. or he died from mourning.
