Are the engines of the b787 actually exactly the same size as those of the b777? They both seem about the same size to me… Even though the b777's engines have a diameter of 3 meters or so.

No, they’re not the same size. In addition, B787 and B777 have different options, which engines can be used:

I hope I have not forgotten an engine, but as you see, there are differences, even if the size difference is only a few cm.
