BMW e46 temperature display (doesn't get warm)?

Hello everyone,

I have a problem with my BMW E46 316i. The temperature gauge is acting up and indicates that the engine isn't warming up properly. However, the interior heater works perfectly and heats up. I've already replaced the coolant sensor, but that didn't solve the problem.

Does anyone have any idea what else could be causing this? Could it be the thermostat, for example, or are there other common sources of error with this model? I'd appreciate any advice!

Thank you in advance!

Sounds like a thermostat issue. But this isn't an E46 or BMW problem; it happens in every car.

The fact that the car gets warmer when stationary is due to the lack of wind.

It's the same for me. But it's like this every winter. Do you have a comparison to last year?

The thermostat would be the next point, you're right. Have you taken it to a workshop or asked in a BMW forum? You can often get very good advice there, especially if such problems occur frequently.
