On the one hand, it can be random results of gene drift. The distribution of the allele and thus of the blood groups then depends significantly on the distribution in the founding population, which is only a small section of the total population and whose allele frequencies do not necessarily have to be identical to the total population.

On the other hand, some blood groups seem to have a regional adjustment advantage. It’s e.g. proves that people of the blood group 0 rarely suffer harder from Covid-19. The distribution of blood groups will therefore probably also have been influenced by such local environmental factors as the occurrence of certain diseases.
