Block YouTube ads on Raspberry Pi?

Hey, I'm running RB Pi with Umbrel, originally as a BTC node. Now I read that you can also install PI-Hole or AdGuard Home via Umbrel. I already have ad blockers on my devices, and they work fine, except for YouTube. I've tried various blockers, but none of them block YouTube ads.

Would Pi-Hole or AdGuard actually make a difference? Many people say they help, others say it doesn't work on YouTube because YouTube displays the ads directly. Does anyone have any experience with these? Or any other suggested solutions?

Youtube, no. This has to be done by the fact that youtube is integrated into the video and therefore you cannot distinguish it from normal videos at network level.

Nevertheless, a PI-Hole/AdGuard is recommended, as it continues to block Werbugn on devices, where you can’t install an ADBlocker and also clear a buckling track on the side.

I would recommend using UBlock original. To date, youtube has always blocked advertising.

UBLock Lite or UBlock Origin? And what browser do you use?

The team behind UBlock Origin has written that its extension is no longer available in the Chrome Store. So no matter what you’ve got, it’s not UBlock. It can’t even be through the manifesto V3.

Chrome does nothing else, but there are as above gennant alternatives like Zen Browser, FireFox or Mullvad or Brave.

Then it won’t go. In the Chrome store there is only UBlock Lite. This edition will not block 60% of things anymore. Has something to do with the engine in the background (Manifest V2 to V3).

To continue using UBlock Orgin, you need a Firefox based browser. In addition, you can watch Brave, these are Chromeium based, but even have an ADBlocker onboard of the Youtube videos blocked and can also install UBlock Origin.
Here I could recommend FireFox, Zen Browser or Mullvad. But I would strongly advise operas GX as they do nothing else than to take off all data and give it on (for more information see The morpheus his video).
