bird often on the ground?
Hello,
We have a very, very old zebra finch who's been acting strangely lately. When he jumps around in his enclosure, he often lands on the ground, but then flies right back up onto one of the perches.
But last night I noticed that he slept on the floor the entire night. Is this normal for an old animal, or should I go to the vet?
About this: Our little one has been living with us for almost six years. We don't know how old he is, as he flew to us. He escaped from his deceased owner and came to us. However, he was already very tame at that point, which is why he must have lived with this person for a longer time.
The vet estimates him to be about 8-9 years old.
And the cage doesn't pose a problem either; he has enough hammocks and various platforms on which he could rest. However, he only grabs the bars and often loses his balance, which is why he then returns to the floor. Last night, I heard that he slipped a few times while trying to sleep.
Despite his age, he's totally lively, a happy little bird, and sings beautiful melodies. He eats and drinks normally and shows no other symptoms (apart from a few signs of aging).
I'm extremely worried now, since birds shouldn't lie on the ground all night. Thanks in advance for your answers!
I honestly don’t know how old a bird can be.
He can’t seem to be in pain either. A horse, by the way, not.
A doctor should look at this.
He had his life.

I think these are age phenomena. Maybe he has problems with balance. Or the legs are weak and don’t make it right. I’d put a little nest in his cage and puff it with something. Maybe he’ll take it.
Put him in a nest. Maybe he takes it and sits.
