Am I too old for a dual training program as a chemical laboratory technician?
A little about me. I'm 23 years old and received my intermediate school leaving certificate (Mittlere Reife) with qualification in 2018. I then went to the upper secondary school (Gymnasium) to get my Abitur (university entrance qualification). This didn't work out; I have neither a Fachabitur (university entrance qualification) nor a general higher education entrance qualification (Abitur). Anyway, after graduating from upper secondary school in 2022, I applied for various chemical laboratory technician and chemical technician apprenticeships, but unfortunately without success. When I subsequently started an apprenticeship in the commercial sector, since I didn't get a position as a chemical laboratory technician or chemical technician, I stopped applying. However, my professional interest remains in chemistry and other natural sciences and didn't fade during my apprenticeship. Now I'm reading in many forums that age plays a role and chemical companies prefer to hire someone younger than someone a little older. Since the competition is already fierce enough, this makes me more skeptical than usual. Is there still a chance of getting an apprenticeship as a chemical laboratory technician?
You never get old with a training. Maybe you did wrong with your application documents somewhere. I also know a 30-year-old who has already graduated and is now in the first year of apprenticeship Azubi
You’ve been trying this two years ago, I think it would be better if you focus on your current training. Maybe after the end of your training, you can check again what options you have
Was actually also my goal until I noticed that I am unsatisfied and underwhelmed. I’m swarming natural science as I was in my training I’ve always wanted to work in the lab. So I am no longer in the training I have applied for school education
