Am I still protected?

Hello, I started taking the pill early, not on the first day of my period for personal reasons. Will it change its effectiveness, or is that a problem? I've been off the pill since Thursday last week and had sex yesterday. Am I still protected, or can I get pregnant now?

Hello

If you take the pill regularly, do not testify, do not have diarrhea and do not take any medications that affect the effect of the pill, you have taken the pill regularly at least 14 days before the break (does not apply to the Belara and the like, there are 21 days), the break does not last longer than 7 days and you will not be on the 8th. day again with the pill (applies to most pills), then you are also in the break and immediately afterwards (i.e. uninterrupted), protected to 99.9% (the missing 0.1%, according to the expert opinion, refer to unnoticed or unadmitted intake errors). You are also still protected in vomiting and really liquid diarrhea if you reagier properly and take a pill when it happens within 4 hours after taking the pill. In this case, only really aqueous diarrhea counts as diarrhea. If that’s true, you can’t get pregnant. The pill is one of the safest contraceptives and if you are both healthy you can dispense with the condom and he can also come in you.

Without exception, any pill will reliably protect from the first day of taking pills when you start on the first day of menstruation.

Expecting the period is recommended, among other things, to exclude an existing pregnancy, to suppress the ovaries from the start and thus to guarantee immediate protection.

You can also start taking on day 2-5 of the cycle, but then you have to apply additional contraceptive agents (e.g. a condom) on the first 7 days.

This information can be found in the 3rd Section of the package insert“How to take XY®?”under“When you can start the first blister pack”:– If you haven’t applied any contraceptive agents with hormones last month”.

Even if this is not possible or not desired, you can also start on another day if you are not pregnant. Then, in each pill, after 7 days (except in the Qlaira – there are 9 days) sufficient protection has built up (“Quick Start Method”).

Commission Regulation (EU) No 648/2012 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 11 December 2012 on the common organisation of the market in milk and milk products (OJ L 347, 20.12.2012, p. 1).

Then you also need to prevent 7 days in addition with condom or just for a week to give up sex.

For the prevention, it is only important that you take your pill correctly, i.e. regularly (or within the tolerance) and do not extend a break and think of interactions with other medicines and consider vomiting and aqueous diarrhea within 3 to 4 hours after taking and correct a mistake.

Then you are 24/7 protected from, in and after the break.

Happy for you!
