Beetle “saved”?
Hello everyone
I found a dung beetle in front of our front door. We'll call him Henry. He was rather out of place on the second floor. He was lying on his back, and when I tried to turn Henry over, I noticed that there were lots of small, orange "spiders" sitting on his stomach.
So I thought it was spiders that had infested him, and now Henry is dying.
So I took a kitchen towel and tweezers and carefully picked some of these spiders off Henry's stomach.
When Henry tried to turn around, I figured he probably knew better than to stay. I promptly took him down under a bush. I also wondered if those were Henry's children I'd just taken away.
Then I googled it, and no, it wasn't Henry's children, but mites. They wouldn't harm him, according to the internet.
I feel bad now, even though I only wanted to help. Will Henry die because of me?
This is not a joke, please help me.
Have a nice evening and thank you in advance!🩵✨
Hey,
Even if they don't seriously harm him, they're still a burden. If there had been too many of them, he could have died.
I've been interested in nature since childhood. I used to think it was the young of dung beetles.
I haven't seen them in 20, 25 years. Even though I'm a farmer, my animals are only in the barn.
But in December? I can't even imagine it. I've only ever known it from May to October.
Also die Milben oder die Mistkäfer?
Ja, das gehört ja scheinbar zusammen. Ich dachte damals, es wären die Jungen.
Ohne Weidehaltung,(Kühe, pferde, Schafe, Ziegen) keine Mistkäfer.
