Intervertebral disc or symphysis loosening?
Hello, I have been diagnosed with a bulging L4/L5 disc and am currently almost halfway pregnant. For a few days now, I have had severe pain in my pubic bone, which radiates into my pelvis and leg. Could this already be symphysis pubis loosening? The internet said that it usually occurs from the 20th week onwards. However, I don't have a significant baby bump yet. I thought this loosening would only occur when I had a baby bump. The bulging disc isn't that severe and has always been treatable with light exercises. I don't have another physio appointment until Christmas Eve, and I'd like to bring this up. Perhaps someone here can give me some information in advance.
Best wishes and happy holidays to everyone.
It could be a symphysis loosening, as the pregnancy hormones like Relaxin already loosen the bands in the pelvis early, even without a large baby body. Shamb pains that radiate into the pelvis or leg are typical, especially when moving. However, as you also have a disc problem, the pain could also come from it, as nerve irritations can cause similar symptoms.
Until your appointment, you can try to avoid movements that increase pain, such as long steps or stair climbing. A pelvic or pregnancy belt could help, just as light heat or cold. If the pain becomes very strong or other symptoms such as deafness occur, you should consult a doctor beforehand. Good luck!
Thank you.
