Sell or repair car?
Hello,
I drive a 2001 BMW 316i E46. It has 116,000 km on the odometer. It's serviced regularly. It's a 4-cylinder, 1.9-liter engine with 105 hp. I'm the second-hand owner.
The exterior is practically top-notch. The interior is also "recognizable" except for the soft-touch varnish here and there.
If it turns out that it has a defective cylinder head gasket (because it loses a lot of coolant, it doesn't drip anywhere)
Is it worth repairing it, if everything else is fine? Or should I repair it and sell it? Or sell it outright.
I'm also not too dependent on a car, which means I could easily get by without one for a few months and then buy another one.
Sell the bucket as it is.
Have even sold an E46 318i with suspicion of defective ZKD that had approx. 160,000km.
that is not worth
Selling like him. It’s gonna be an endless construction site at which something’s broken.
Repair and continue or sell with the defect.
I’ll do it. You can’t drive BMW cheaper. It’s not much work. Depends on the overall condition
If you get the “as sold as it is” you won’t get much – and if you fix it and sell it, you’ll get to land approximately in the range from 2500 to 3000 euros, rather around 2500; the repair may cost a good thousand – you have to see if it’s worth it. The 316i is not very much in demand – it would be best to have the repair done and then drive it until it falls apart. Technically, the 2001s were good before the facelift, they had the solid M43TÜ engine with 105 hp, which is very durable and can create so much again with 115,000 kilometers.
If you can fix it yourself, it’s worth it. Otherwise not.
It’s a madness repair, a lot of effort, a lot of time, a lot of time.
Maybe there’ll be cheap replacement engines and know who to fit them?
Well, BMW doesn’t do much. If you can leave, it’s just a four-cylinder…
Depends on your budget and your relationship to the car. Both options would be okay. There should not be much difference in price. How do you see that?
I could have it repaired, it’s very reliable that after 80tkm is the first time what’s defective. I have no problem selling it. Purchased with 60TKM for 4,200 Euro. Ask me what he’s worth with a broken ZKD.
You can’t get anything for the 22-year-old old-timer, afaik.
ZKD repair – ka, how expensive it would be, but overall you will hardly drive such a cheap car again.
