Auto limiter?
Hello,
I was on the highway today, 3 lanes, unlimited traffic and almost nothing going on.
Then I drove a bit faster, about 150, and then wanted to see what I could do, so I drove 190 for a short time.
The speed was very high and just before the limiter, nothing should actually happen because that is exactly what the limiter is there for.
When I slowed down again, to about 130 because there was a speed limit, there was a bit of a burning smell in the car. It was still like that on the country road where I was almost alone, so I strongly suspect that it came from me.
I stopped about 10 minutes later and opened the hood. The engine was warm and the temperature gauge showed everything as normal, as usual.
My car has 100 hp, a 4-cylinder engine, and is from 2010. I'm a little worried that something might have broken. 😅
The oil level and everything else should be fine, but I'll check again tomorrow.
Thank you very much 😊
The limiter will never respond in the greatest gear and only 100 hp. You’d have to go right down the mountain. 190 km/h are already a challenge with 100PS. A corsa comes to a maximum of 194. This depends on the weight and the driving resistances. With you, paint will be burned off at the exhaust or oil residues.
Not every vehicle has a limiter It is true to call a speed limiter that is either programated in the control unit or, as before, if the vehicle still has an ignition distributor, is controlled by centrifugal forces in the distributor finger.
Speed limits can also be defined for example for company vehicles, but this must be done with the seller / contract workshop, which can control this via the software.
May be that a mixture of old oil and dirt in the engine room started to stink.
