In driving school I was taught to start the car in gear 0, now I have had my license for 3 weeks and accidentally tried to start the car in 1st gear without depressing the clutch (the car obviously didn't start…), after that I depressed the clutch but it wouldn't start anymore, after that I turned the car off completely and turned it on again and then the engine started.
How damaging was that to the engine?

Das schlimmste was dabei passieren kann ist das vor dir noch jemand anders parkt und dein Auto einen Satz in seine Stoßstange oder in einen Passanten macht. Dein Auto stört sich daran nicht wirklich.

Schadet dem Motor nicht.
Du kannst das Auto in beliebigem Gang starten wenn du die Kupplung voll getreten hast. Kann sogar Vorteile bringen weil eingekuppelt immer ein Teil vom Getriebe mitdreht, das ist zusätzliche Masse die der Anlasser beschleunigen muss, was bei leerer Batterie das bisschen an zusätzlicher Last bringt so dass der Motor gerade nicht mehr anspringt.
Bei modernen und ein paar älteren Fahrzeugen, wird der Anlasser garnicht aktiviert, wenn die Kupplung nicht getreten wird.
Dadurch ist es überhaupt nicht schädlich.
Mein Clio macht im Ersten trotz Handbremse einen Satz nach vorn. Er hat diesen “Schutz” nicht. (Ich wollts mal testen)
