Accidentally ‘ridden without a ticket’?
Hello, I was checked yesterday in Geilenkirchen and had a valid Schokoticket, but no additional ticket because the train was labeled VRR. I rarely take the train, so I didn't know. Now I've been given a slip saying I have to pay €60 for 'riding without a ticket.' But I had a Schokoticket. It's not as if I didn't have a ticket at all and was deliberately 'riding without a ticket.' Does anyone know how to get around this? Or what I could do.
Greetings
One of our legal principles is “ignorance does not protect against punishment”, at least if you had the opportunity to inform yourself.
You didn’t have a valid ticket for the route on which you were checked – the end of the story.
If you get your chocolate ticket, you will always get a map of the VRR area. You can see that Aachen and Heinsberg are no longer part of the VRR.
Whether on a train “VRR” is on it or not, the validity of the tickets does not matter. Most regional trains in this region travel longer distances, of which only a part is in the VRR area.
The chocolate ticket is valid only in this area:
In the direction of Aachen is the end of the city border of Mönchengladbach – more precisely at Herrath station.
You can explain your situation to the person at the switch. You can’t handle the situation like that. I drove once without a student ID, but I was allowed to do it.
Unfortunately, the saying fits: ignorance does not protect against punishment!
Wrong ticket is like no ticket. Unfortunately, you have to settle this punishment, even if it hurts.
Intent or not doesn’t matter. And obviously your ticket for the train or the track did not go, so you drove effectively black. It’s annoying for you, but look at it as an apprentice.
