Year abroad?

Hey

I'm planning on going to the USA for six months next semester. Do you have any good organizers or anything I need to know about it? So far, I haven't found anything particularly helpful other than a lot of advertising… I'd also like to know about scholarships. Where can I apply, and do I get only part of the money or all of it? My family probably won't spend 10,000 on it. Do I have to repeat a grade if I only go for six months?

Hello

a year abroad in school, a student exchange, is a good idea. For your questions:

  • The costs: You must realize that half the school year abroad costs almost as much as the whole school year
  • At the beginning of 2025, the places are currently awarded. If you still want to achieve this, you should take care of yourself very quickly.
  • Recognition at home or at home: This depends on what state you live in, what type of school you are visiting (high school, general school, G8/G9) and how your school supports you. Therefore, you can best deal with your school directly

The student exchange is a larger project. In any case, the procedure shall apply: You should systematically prepare the student exchange. There are

Do you have good organizers and things I need to know for that? I haven’t found anything really cute except a lot of advertising…

Good place to get to personal information:

https://www.aufindiewelt.de

There are always Returnees who report on their experiences.

Everyone makes such an exchange only once in life.

Here you can find Orgas listed:

http://schueleraustausch-usa.e2make.com

Some orgas are non-profit. AFS and YFU, for example.

https://www.schueleraustausch.net/ratgeber/austauschorganisation/text/public or commercial

Things I need to know for that?

Anyone who wants to go to the USA must be included in a program due to the required visa.

DAS is the main task of the organisations. This task is always taken over by the partner organizations in the USA. Also the actual care on site.

In the USA there is approx. 3! Organizations that take care of this for all German companies… is important that you feel well-resolved.

In addition, the partner organization is looking for the host family for you. A good letter to the potential Host Family is important. This is published on the Internet. Host families in the United States don’t get any money they can take you. So, screw down claims.

Therefore, it may actually be useful to apply for more than one organization.

A so-calledRegionsis also counterproductive. Because if you can invade the region, you can insure your placement opportunities uncommonly and unnecessarily, as not all over the country would be looking for a host family. There is also much more in the selected regionsPampaas asked hot spots.

The selection of regions is therefore not a guarantee that you have the better/cooler experience.

Do you really ask what is important to you?:

  • Spatial proximity to the organization in Germany for personal preparation
  • Price
  • Possibility to apply for scholarships
  • Reviews on the Internet/experiences by Mitschülern
  • Possibility of country or region selection in the USA

Do you have to repeat the class only half a year?

With G8 repeating duty is recommended with G9 an option and in my opinion. In addition, an entire school year is always recommended. It’s barely more expensive and brings the most.

I would also like to know how this looks with a scholarship, where you can apply for it and you get only a part of the money or all, because my family will most likely not spend 10k for it

There are financial support for student exchange years:

BAfö

According to the Federal Education Funding Act, there can also be a claim for funding abroad for students.

scholarships:

  • Parliamentary sponsorship programme (full scholarship!)
  • Partial fellowships of organisations
  • Daimler-Byrnes Fellowship
  • Northern light scholarships
  • Promotion by Lions Club or Rotary Club

Further funding:

  • Educational credit and other financing options

But you have to pay 10,000. More than 12,000€ unless it works with the PPP
