Pudel came from France and were formerly bred for the duck hunt.

He was first mentioned in 1555. It was bred only in the 19th century and there were only 2 breeds.

As far as I know, there is a dispute between French and German dog breeders/experts, which is the country of origin in which the first poodles were bred.

Personally, I rather connect France with it – in fact: King Friedrich II of Prussia spoke exclusively French with his dolls and also his servants had to do so.
