Aren't acceleration and additional speed actually the same thing?

Because when you accelerate, let's say you're going downhill on a bike, there's additional speed because of the steep path, right?

Why don't you use an integral when you're talking about infinitesimal time steps? In addition, infinitesimal is very small in principle, which is why you don't have to write it extra;)
