Yes, it is riskier for one simple reason: it no longer receives security updates.

Security vulnerabilities occur constantly and in every operating system. However, in currently supported operating systems, these are usually closed/updated very quickly, so very few hackers can exploit them.

However, known security vulnerabilities in Windows 7 are no longer being closed, so the malware that exploits these vulnerabilities can become increasingly more insidious and sophisticated.

Anti-virus software has little or even negative effect

With older operating systems that no longer receive security updates, there's always a higher risk that vulnerabilities can be exploited. Especially since security holes can exist not only in the operating system itself, but also in third-party software.

When support for a version is discontinued, software manufacturers also gradually stop supporting that platform. A good example of this is web browsers. In addition to an outdated system, you might also have to revert to an older version of the browser.

There's a wide range of attack possibilities, and it would generally be counterproductive to voluntarily invite potential attackers onto your computer. However, that doesn't mean the world would end immediately after the first two or three clicks.

Antivirus programs give you a false sense of security, using fancy advertising slogans to suggest what they can do. They may detect most of the usual stuff, but they can also be circumvented.

Especially since such applications can (and do) pose a security problem themselves, as they always require elevated access rights. This means they can dig deeper into the system and potentially drill new holes in it.
