In what context? The abbreviation Wf tells me nothing.

This is the name of the control unit. “W” or “E” is usually the initial letter of the respective station and “f” stands for the driver, so it is a command set. A “w” would then stand for a warfare, a “s” or “n” mostly for the location within the railway station in the direction of heaven.

In the east, control units are more often referred to and numbered according to their function, e.g. B1, W2, R3 in a station with command, guard and maneuvering units (in kilomaturation direction).

If it looks like an actuating mechanism, it is probably also one, and this acronym is simply the name of the actuating mechanism.

“Ef” can be, for example, the Essen Hbf or Erlangen, “Wf” the same e.g. in Wiesbaden Hbf or Wunstorf (the designations are not absolutely clear, but only so far that there cannot be confusion regionally).

As already mentioned, however, this is not a single abbreviation (such as the abbreviation of the works), but only for the differentiation/short designation of the works within a station.
