Turn off aquarium filter overnight?

Hey, my pump is vibrating and humming. I've tried everything possible, like unplugging and reconnecting it or getting all the air out (if air in the filter is the reason for this). Can I just turn the filter off overnight and turn it back on in the morning?

Hi.

First of all,

  • Yes, you can run the filter so day after night, but you should clean it thoroughly with running water before the first issue. Throw away the filter sponge is another option.
  • Yes, this makes the filter sponge useless, but water movement itself also has effects.

But, my advice for the holders of a martial fish is not to use a filter anyway, i.e. to remove the filter. An aquarium that is occupied with a combat fish does not need a filter. The filter even makes it difficult to feed live food. In addition, fighting fish are dying again and again as a result of strange accidents around the filter, as they find the thing interesting and get behind it, squeeze on it.

As the filter bothers you, but the fish can’t use the filter for nothing, take it out.

But this is not possible I know 🙄 an aquarium needs a filter, CO2, a great lighting…

So you kill all important bacteria in the filter and make it useless when the filter does not run for a long time. You can also run the aquarium without filter. Come out to the same, because you would then be in the filter at a point as before.

No, because this interrupts the nitrogen cycle.
