Apple Watch for children – configuration fails due to mobile network?
Hello everyone,
I bought my little daughter (who doesn't have a cell phone) an Apple Watch 6 Cellular. I've added the watch as a family member on my iPhone. I'm stuck with the cellular setup. In my Watch app on the iPhone, under Cellular, it says:
Your Vodafone.de account is not authorized to activate mobile data on the Apple Watch.
So I can't configure anything under "Mobile".
The watch says "no SIM" and "no connection." How do I get cellular data on the watch and get the error out of the app? Or is it not an error?
For info:
My iPhone 14 has a Freenet Flex SIM card (Vodafone network). For the Watch, I want to buy an eSIM CallYa Classic from Vodafone ( https://www.vodafone.de/freikarten/callya-classic-form/?icmp=prepaid-ohne-vertrag_tile_classic#personal-details-1 ). I don't think it makes sense to order the CallYa card as long as I can't configure anything under mobile data in the Watch app, right?
Has anyone managed to activate the watch with a mobile discounter? If so, which provider do you use? Tchibo, fraenk, Alditalk, etc.?
Thank you very much!
Hmm okay, if that’s true, I’ll sell the clock again. Unless someone else has a tip, etc.
You can’t just put any eSIM in the Apple Watch. You need a runtime contract supported by a multiSIM mobile provider and Apple Watch, because the watch and iPhone need the same number. The MultiSIM then usually costs extra.
Is that true? Apple writes something else:
https://www.apple.com/en/watch/cellular/
Support for Apple Watch for your children.
With Apple Watch for your kids, you can set up an Apple Watch for children in your household with your iPhone. The watch can then be used with its own phone number and account……
True, this seems to be a bit different for the children’s function, but this limitation that you need a special tariff that seems to be still the same.
