Apple tree // columnar tree dead?
Hello!
I moved the tree last year in June. (I know, you're not supposed to ๐ ) I watered it diligently over the summer. It even turned green again in the fall. The bark damage was mostly caused by the excavator.
Now, as you can see from the pictures, the tree doesn't look so great anymore. Can it still be saved, or is the tree dead for good?
Yes, it’s over. Under the bark, the ducts in which the tree pumps the juices from the roots into the leaves. If these tracks are interrupted (by damage) Then he’s consecrated to death.
Small injury would have been necessary to provide a wound closure paint. Then he would have done a lot.
I assume he hasn’t bloomed and hasn’t driven out any leaves.
I do not see any massive injuries of the Kambium, which could cause the tree to die.
No massive fungal attack or pest attack.
No reason the tree doesn’t exaggerate.
ABER
When converting an old tree, root mass is lost. The fine roots are usually the problem. Probably this is more the cause.
Such massive bark injury should not make up a healthy tree. But it is of course an entrance for diseases and pests. The tree would normally heal itself. However, a planted tree is hardly able to do so.
Probably some mistakes have been made.
If the tree has driven out, it is probably worth the bark treatment now.
First, the bark may smooth out with bark scraper and dead parts. Then close the wound with artificial bark. Disadvantage, one prevents the natural healing of the tree. Therefore very controversial. Nevertheless, I would strive for it here because the tree is severely damaged by its still weak root mass anyway.
I’m not a professional. If the tree is important, I would turn to an expert.
Not dead yet.
Unfortunately no life can be found in the pictures
