Birth control pill depression?
I've been taking hormones since I was 15. I don't remember what it's like without them, or I can't remember. But I feel much, much better when I'm off the pill than when I'm taking the pill. I also used to get PMS, either with or despite the pill.
I recently had an unwanted four-day break from the pill, and it was really stressful. I continued taking it after the fourth day, and since then, I've been feeling mentally unwell. I'm starting to think that all these years of taking the pill have been giving me a depressed mood and a lack of motivation. I wake up crying, have trouble sleeping, and cry about everything.
Do you have any experience with how you felt mentally after stopping the medication? I'm stopping today.
If you’ve been suffering from mental problems for years, you should look for professional help. PMS under hormonal contraception is not exactly typical. Your decision to settle has already fallen. Then you can see if it is better with pill or with the hormone fluctuations in the natural cycle.
The answer below that the hormone level does not change in the pill break is, by the way, fascious. A certain follicle ripening happens at this time, but don’t stop so far that ovulation occurs – except for extending the pause beyond the prescribed maximum duration.
In the pill break, your hormone level is still unchanged, so you imagine.
Replacement is, however, better for the body. It may take a few months before your body has changed.
