Afraid of allergy testing with needles?
Hello
I (19-year-old female) have a terrible fear of needles, especially injections and blood draws. I get along quite well with the nurses at my primary care doctor; we manage by holding hands, crying a lot, and panicking, but it's still the worst thing for me.
Unfortunately, other doctors have often been unsympathetic to my anxiety, and I've been criticized more than helped. Now I'd like to have an allergy test done because I have a severe pollen allergy and also react to fruits like apples and pears. But I've heard that such tests (e.g., skin prick tests) involve needles, and the mere thought of it scares me.
Does anyone know if there are other ways to test for pollen allergies that don't involve needles? And how I can better cope with the fear?
Thank you <3
There isn’t.
But there are no needles in the sense. What is used is much smaller. And just smaller than a syringe.
What is used is more rice size than needle size.
In the prick test, no syringe is used, but a small picecsding (see picture) with which only superficially the skin is stabbed. This is almost pleasant compared to syringes (the latter I do not like) 😉
So you’ve had to do such a test before, and that wasn’t bad? So from the pain
Yeah, that was really not bad
Was there now that they don’t make it like this now with blood collection
I think you’re making this worse than it is. Imagine you’re mistaken in a tachograph. More is in reality, too. You’re really just getting fucked, you’re not being put in great or something.
There is no other way to test, the epicutane test (the one with plasters) is tested for something else.
