Fishing rod on the plane?

Hi, a friend and I would like to do some fishing in Greece this summer. The question is how this is regulated in terms of transport. I'm finding numerous vague or contradictory answers on Google, so I'm simply asking here in the hope of getting a serious and clear answer: Is it permitted to transport fishing rods in their entirety, including hooks, etc., in a suitcase? Or does the extras have to be treated as "bulky luggage"? Thanks in advance!
