An orchid is rapidly shedding all its leaves. Can it still be saved?
Yesterday, I noticed that my orchid was shedding its leaves. The lower leaves had already completely detached. Over the past few hours, more and more leaves have detached. Now it only has one leaf left.
The leaves turn yellow at the base and then literally snap off. The stem also looks quite yellow. The fallen leaves themselves have no dark spots, grooves, or anything similar. They are firm and heavy.
In my opinion, I didn't overwater or overfertilize the orchid. It probably wasn't exposed to cold drafts, either.
She probably doesn't get enough light, but I'd be surprised if she threw in the towel overnight because of that.
The plant has produced lots of healthy-looking green roots and even a new shoot.
What could this be? Does the plant have some kind of infection? Is there anything I can do to help? Will it help if I remove it from the substrate and place it in a glass jar? The aerial roots should also be capable of photosynthesis, right?
Do you mean the flowers/bloom leaves? Then it's pretty normal for orchids. Sometimes these also take years of blooming breaks and then suddenly start again.
