To the Arabs among you ~ Do you understand other Arabic dialects?
For example, if you're Syrian or something, can you understand Iraqi? Or Moroccan? Or Saudi Arabian, Kuwaiti, or Egyptian, etc.?
Or the other way around: You're Iraqi, Moroccan, or something like that. Can you understand the Syrian or Egyptian dialect?
I have to say that as a Syrian, I can't understand all dialects. I understand Syriac well, alhamdulillah. Otherwise, I can understand Iraqi as well. But unfortunately, the dialects from Baghdad aren't so great (I only understand a little boy from Baghdad when I talk to him), and I understand the dialects from Mosul well, because my Iraqi neighbors are from Mosul, and I understand them well when I talk to them.
I understand Egyptian a little. Moroccan almost not at all. Kuwaiti is okay. I understand Lebanese too, and I understand Tunisian a little bit.
I understand Modern Standard Arabic perfectly, alhamdulillah. I just need to learn to speak Modern Standard Arabic perfectly and fluently, insha'Allah.

as libanesin, of course, I can understand very well Syrian, Egyptian also quite okay, and that speaks in the united Arab emirate I also understand up to a level. Moroccan garnot and Tunisian and Algerian couple words as I know many from these countries

If you don’t understand Moroccan, it can be that the speakers are Berber. They have their own language.

We Moroccans actually speak a very different Arabic than the rest of the Arab-speaking world. Also because, among others, Bergisch or Tamazight has great influence on the Moroccan Arab (Darija). The Swiss of the Arab world.
Yeah, but it’s Arabic anyway. The majority of Darija is Arabic but it is still hard to understand for other Arabs because of the Tamazight influence as you have said and there are too many French words lol. And the Arab words we have are either very old (archaic) or they have been changed so much that they are no longer recognizable lol

I just get us Moroccans, everything else doesn’t hahah. And otherwise, it’s like nobody understands us. But I can understand some Algerian and Tunisian dialects very well. But I don’t understand everything that is really Arabic and not North African. In Egypt there are almost only real Arabs, so I don’t understand them as well as Algerians, Tunisians and Libyans
I’m an Egyptian and I talked to Moroccans and Algerians. We had to speak English or High Arabic to understand each other. But most Arabs understand Egyptian and High Arabic.
I can understand many dialects but as they speak is difficult

I can’t do it Moroccan Arabic yet, but I can say that it is actually very different.
If you know some peculiarities, the one or the other word becomes somewhat easier. About the Egyptians using G instead of J often G. Thus, Jiddo (Opa) becomes Giddo, Geddo or something similar.
I was in Egypt only last month and oh one of their dialect ey is so extreme unlike the Moroccan Haha. So when talking in dialect it’s really like another language ey XD
You may not understand Moroccans because many speak one of the Berber languages.
But the ones who speak Arabic, that is Moroccan Darija, you probably don’t understand that well, because in the dialect many Spanish and even more French words have flowed.
