An AMP is an amplifier.

If it’s a guitar amplifier, you don’t need anything. Later maybe an effect device between guitar and AMP.

Are the controllers turned on the guitar?

Don’t confuse amplifiers and combo.

Many guitarists have a combo. This is a combination of preamplifier, effect device (overdrive/hall), sound controller, amplifier and speaker box.

It would be helpful to tell us what it is.

Manufacturer of guitar and model name, manufacturer of amplifier (Amplifier short AMP) and model name.

only so you can really help.

Most amplifiers have more buttons on the back, would start there. And if there’s nothing there, he’s out.

Most amplifiers have other buttons on the back

  • Do not change amplifiers and combo.
  • …. or elsewhere.

What have you got now?
a combo or just an amplifier? If you only have one amplifier you need one more Head part!

An amp is an amplifier. Amp is just the English word of it.

Effectively, if you only have one amplifier, you need another amplifier.

For me, amplifier was always the box itself and then of course you need a head part
