Am I restricted in Teams when I work in Word? Am I missing some things that Word has, even if several people can access it?
For example, I can't add a table caption.
Is this a slimmed down version of Word or how can you imagine it?

Yeah, that's right. This also applies to the other Microsoft programs such as PP and Excel.
You can also open Word in the app if you have a license. But that's all right not (according to my experience), if this license is already linked to another MS account.
Your employer will have bought you an official office license on the computer. Then you can open files in the team and then use "Open in App".
Then the normal office application opens and all possible features are available there. You still work online directly on the file.
As a student, I don't have an employer.
There are cheap office licenses. Yeah, gray zone, but I've been using it for over a decade without problems.
Office Home & Student approx. 120 euros at Media Markt (Official)
About idealo from 6.19 euros (grey area).
The FS can google the network for more on such favorable offers.
Why gray zone? As far as I remember, there was always particularly inexpensive licenses for students , and the highly unofficial (offended by MS). Isn't it like that anymore?
