Buying a BMW car as a new driver?

I'm really interested in cars, but I'm very picky about some things. I've always been drawn to BMWs. I liked the looks the best. Some people told me BMWs are very expensive (insurance, new or used cars) and cars break down quickly. They would never buy a BMW. I'm a new driver (I've had my license for just under a year). I haven't driven that much because I don't have my own car yet. I wanted to save up for it and not get a junk car. And manual transmissions aren't my thing. I would definitely get an automatic. I've looked into it. A used car I like (with just under 50,000 km on the clock) would cost just under €20,000. Do you think that's too much to spend on a car? I'm not a fan of paying for anything in installments. I could afford the car. Currently, prices for used cars are extremely high anyway. It's almost impossible to afford them. Did you buy a car on installments, or will you only buy a car when you have the money?

What is your opinion on the situation described?

So, as a starter to spend 20k for a car, I really don’t think it’s a good idea. With such an issue, you should also secure the car full-cassian – did you ask what this would cost for you? As a starter, you are also with several thousand euros per year only for insurance.

If it is to be a BMW (which I understand, because these are just great cars) I would start with a somewhat older model that does not tear such a big hole into the cash register (with more driving practice you can then work up with time).

For example, I would think about an E87 116i or 118i – both the acquisition and the insurance are not so expensive and in particular the facelift models (from BJ2007) of this series are actually considered quite reliable – provided that regular maintenance is not neglected (but cars with neglected maintenance are a vabanque game, actually applies to any car brand).

By the way, I myself also drive a 1st generation, but as E88 convertible (built in 2010). I just love it. It is compact, easy to use, fun driving and even (for a convertible) is quite practical and everyday.

Yeah, much too much. Build your fortune.

A car is a pure consumption issue and after purchase it has constantly high additional costs. I wouldn’t have to pay €20,000 if I didn’t own anything.

Then you have to consider whether you need an expensive car.
