Alprazolam is a drug from the group of benzodiazepines which is used primarily for the brief treatment of severe psychiatric anxiety. It became known above all under his US brand name Xanax. In Germany the drug Tafil, also generics are available. Like all benzodiazepines, alprazolam also makes it difficult to physically and mentally dependent on too frequent use. The usual dose is 0.5 mg if necessary. In severe cases of 1 mg. 10 mg, a clear overdose is thus possible. More about Alprazolam here.

Since Alprazolam has a damping effect on the central nervous system, the active substance must not be combined with other centrally damping substances. This includes alcohol, but also opioids etc. In mixed consumption there is a risk of potentially life-threatening respiratory depression.

A respiratory depression is an inadequacy. This results in a drop in the oxygen content in the blood while the content of carbon dioxide increases. This leads to overacidification of the blood and in the worst case to death.

In short: Yes, the combination between alprazolam and alcohol is dangerous.

10 mg of alprazolam is already an extremely high dose. Mixed consumption with other central-damping active substances—such as alcohol—is to be avoided

In the case of mixed consumption, it can then occur more quickly to side effects such as falling risk, memory gaps, blood pressure drop. The extent to which it precipitates is very different.

Alprazolam is a drug from the group of benzodiazepines and in principle benzodiazepines and alcohol are a very dangerous mix and must not be taken together. This mix can lead to death (temdepression) in the worst case.
