It makes sense to discuss the subject with a doctor, especially if you see signs of an alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATM), such as respiratory problems or asthma. However, asthma alone is not necessarily a reference to AATM, since asthma can have many different causes.

Talk to a doctor about it. A blood test can be performed to determine whether you have the deficiency.
