Replace or remove activated carbon filter with normal cotton filter?
Good evening,
I just learned that you should remove the activated carbon filter in the aquarium.
I have now done that too.
Should I leave the filter as it is or replace it with a few waiting filters?
Hello HabeineFrage820,
You recognized it right,
That’s why you can take the coal filter out and replace it with a substrate of your choice, instead of cotton, it’s a bit more permeable, because it’s too fine so that the filter would soon lose power! Keep the coal filter insert for an emergency!
What’s your filter? Maybe another insert fits, or cut a filter mat right!
I have this filter : R & D
Then you can simply buy a foam insert and shorten it, or a filter mat in appropriate thickness, whereby a single insert is cheaper like a filter mat, almost unlimited hold and can be made from one insert anyway two (due to strength)!

It should fit if it’s too high, just shorten accordingly.
You’re gonna link me this, please?
So I’d replace the activated carbon with cotton. Or if the space permits even use other filter material – I myself had an internal filter where I also made small (I believe) “JBL Sintomec tubes” as a filter medium in addition to the filter sponge.
You can either use a blue filter sponge or a box with biofilter media.
I’d make stones and some cotton, yeah.
The coal filter is only useful when you have drug residues in the aquarium. Otherwise it only filters useful substances for the plants.
You can replace it with a matching filter sponge cartridge. Ideally, the filter sponge cartridge fits the other compartments of the filter type.
Wad is too fine.
