After access the vein is swollen, is that dangerous?

I was in the hospital four days ago and had an IV inserted. Now, four days later, the vein is swollen and feels like a thick thread in my arm, and it hurts. Has anyone else experienced this before, or do you have any tips on how to get rid of it?

There seems to be a vein infection…cool it down and if possible go to the emergency room briefly to rule out thrombosis, but in any case have a doctor look at it as soon as possible.

No, but like I said, if it's not better or gone by Monday…have a doctor take a look at it.

It sounds like thrombophlebitis .

Google it…and then look further.
