Afraid of driving, what to do?

I actually did pretty well in theory, but I'm about to have my first driving lessons and I'm really nervous. Is the practical part much harder than the theory? Were you perhaps also scared at first?

It is quite normal to be nervous about the first driving hours and to be afraid. Many people feel this fear as driving in real traffic can be a new and challenging experience. Here are some tips that can help you deal with your fear:

  1. Breathe deeply and out: breathing can have a calming effect. Focus on your breathing to relax and reduce stress.
  2. Talk to your driving instructor: Openly talk about your fears and concerns with your driving instructor. They have a lot of experience and can give you tips on how to feel safer.
  3. Start slowly: Take your time to get familiar with the car. Start with simple maneuvers and quiet roads before you venture into dense traffic.
  4. Visualize positive scenarios: Imagine positive situations when driving. Visualize how you are calm and confident on the road. This can help to reduce your fear.
  5. Practice outside the driving hours: ask friends or family members whether they can practice with you to get more driving practice. The more you drive, the more confident you will.
  6. Lead a positive inner dialogue: remember that you are able to learn driving and that millions of people have successfully made the driving license. Promise yourself courage and make negative thoughts through positive.
  7. Behave yourself: Give yourself small rewards or positive gains when you make progress on driving. This can help you feel motivated and overcome your fear.

It is important to note that everyone has their own learning curve. Practice can be more difficult for some people than theory, but with time and practice you will feel safer. Remember that driving hours are there to teach you the necessary knowledge and skills to drive safely and confidently.

Don't forget it's normal to be anxious at first. With time you will build trust and feel safer. Good luck with your driving hours!

Whether practice or theory is harder can only find out for yourself. The fear is probably going to be done by itself, with one lasting longer, the other immediately veils it. I always said, "what the many others can I do, too. It's not a witchcraft.

Fear is never a good guide. Fear blocks the brain… you can't focus, you're gonna drive, make mistakes you wouldn't do… So if you're afraid that you can't drive, you'll probably not be able to drive.

If you take the matter without fear:

Yeah, it's a lot at once. It's complicated and you're pretty overwhelmed at the beginning. But how can you do it when you've never done it? You go to the driving school to learn. And look around the world: The others also learned it. So you can learn it, of course.

You get used to a lot pretty fast. You learn this and that quite quickly so that you have capacity to learn the other things.

So, please.

  • Accept that you are overwhelmed at the beginning. That's normal and doesn't mean you're kind of bad!
  • Don't be afraid, but trust that you can learn and learn. And in the meantime, the driving instructor will notice that nothing bad happens.

No fear is one of the greatest fine driving! But you should tell your teacher who, if he's good, he's on it and can take it! Unfortunately you have a good instructor!

Book a safety training, for example at ADAC.

This is supposed to mean that the post thinks about it, why he asks this question of wild strange slackers on the Internet and not the only sensitive person (his driving instructor).

Of course you're right, but as far as this is concerned, young people often don't think anymore…they would like to have everything served on the silver platter
