Adjusting the gears on your mountain bike?

The gear shift on my bike is very difficult to operate. I have to push quite hard to shift into the next gear. Does anyone have any idea how I can make the gearshift easier to operate? I hope you can help me. Thank you very much, and have a nice weekend.

Using force will break things. Stop it!

First, you need WD-40. Spray it on the shift levers, the front derailleur, the rear derailleur, and also on the exposed cables. Then shift about 273 times. Now wipe off this corrosive stuff and lubricate all moving parts with some mechanical oil (available at Edeka). Shift again, wipe again…

Bowden cables and/or shifters are resinous, so new cables and outer casings, the shifters once generously flood with Balistol or WD40 and click through, of course remove the cables first

First lubricate the cables and then the front and rear derailleur until everything runs smoothly.

It's probably time for a new Bowden cable including housing.
