Account is closed for no reason. What should I do?
Three months ago, I opened an account with Bunq. It was intended to serve as a secondary account for small payments or car sharing.
A few days ago, I tried to log in, but the account was initially blocked. I was told to wait 24 hours. The next day, the account was completely closed. The reasons given were the use of crypto, gambling, money laundering, and a few other things.
I feel so screwed. The only thing I've done is verify my account several times when signing up for car sharing because the registration failed. I've also transferred and returned four or five small amounts of €2-€20 to test the car sharing service. Otherwise, there have been no transactions.
There's no way to contact customer service now because everything is handled through the app. Since my account is locked, I can no longer use customer service. There's no number.
It's not "without reason."
Due to the multiple registrations and the low account movements to the same addressees, the suspicion that you either run unauthorized money transactions or do something illegal was created. These small amounts could be considered as anonymous conversions of crypto, financial activities or the laundering of money gains.
Money laundering is not, as is repeatedly mistakenly assumed, tested for individual amounts of from 10,000 euros, but for all "economically suspected" transactions. A concrete example that I am referring to, small amounts of different people, where a number of people are returned within a short time. Suspicion: industrial action, financial activities, fraud.
"Several times when registering" + "4-5 small amounts of 2-20€ transferred and rejected"
Since this announcement was made to you, I assume that BAFIN was informed. I don't think anything happens because of the small sum.
What can you do?
The good old letter helps here.
bunq doesn't want you as a customer, that's her good right, subject done.
The bank may, of course, terminate the contractual relationship at any time in accordance with General Terms and Conditions.
The bank doesn't need to give you a reason.
Open another sub-account at your current bank. This is always done.
Write a letter to the bank.
I quote from their "business conditions":
What you should be aware of: As with any Neobank, may also bunq You lock the account at any time – without giving reasons – …
This is the case with other banks.
If a bank finds that there are no or only insufficient movements in the account, the bank can resolve the account. They don't want a lot of cartil oaks.
