Failed to retrieve IP address?

Hello,

I bought the PS5 slim the day before yesterday and I have the problem that when I play games the problem comes up that my internet goes down. After that I went into the network settings to test the connection and suddenly it said retrieving the IP address failed. I've never had this problem on my PS4 before. Can someone help me?

How is the console connected? Please do not say by power cable 😀

WLAN or LAN?

You can autom. set your network or manually. I recommend you manually set it and as my previous speaker said the DNS data 8.8.8 (pri) and 8.8.4.4. (sec). Then restart the console and then the internet connection should be available again.

However, it can also be that you have to go to the Router page on the computer and activate the PS5 (LAN/WLAN). My PS5 is connected from home with LAN.

LAN is always better than WLAN. But if you don’t have a free LAN space on the router you need to use Wi-Fi 🙂

In the settings/network enter the WLAN key, the DNS data and then everything should work again. But it can be that you have aborted via WLAN. If an interference source is nearby, e.g.

the problem comes that my internet is gone

because there is only one internet and you are just a little girl in it…. it is not “dein” internet. And what does not work there -> your local network! It obviously does not seem to work on DNA resolution (usually by its own router!).

No failed DNS resolution = no access to the Internet.

In the case of PS5, simply enter a DNS server in the network settings that does not use your router’s IP….
Example would be the DNS servers of Google 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4 or Cloudflare DNS servers (if you don’t like Google) with 1.1.1.1

This looks more like a DHCP problem (and, of course, a DNS problem if a DNS server has not been made known via DHCP) because the error starts when the IP address is called (first image). The PS5 is not assigned an IP configuration, as no DHCP server is found.

Check your network, Wi-Fi settings, if the connection is to be established by WLAN, check them when cabling. Whether the DHCP server runs on your router (because the DHCP server runs on your router for your entire network)
