With cameras, it’s about like game consoles. How long has the PS5 been there and is it still up to date? Even people with a PS4 of 2013 are still supplying games.

With cameras it is similar, successor models generally only exist after ~4 years and the innovations are very low. This means that even 8-10-year-old cameras still provide more or less the same image quality than today’s devices.

What changes noticeably in cameras are comfort functions such as autofocus tracking. The rest are almost insignificant pixel elevations. The jump from 20 to 24 megapixels is just a difference of ~530 pixels more in width. And the sensor dynamics have improved minimally, which is of no concern to a newbie.

You should avoid the M50 from https://www.photografix-magazin.de/canon-eos-m-further-cameras-set/

Canon has apparently finished the production of other EOS M cameras and thus drives the change to the EOS R system.

Production of M200 and M50 II well adjusted

It is more or less an open secret that the EOS M system will no longer play a major role in the future. Nevertheless, an official announcement by Canon that the compact APS-C cameras are set with EF-M bayonet has not yet been available. Theoretically, it would still be conceivable that Canon keeps the EOS M system alive with minimal effort.

New references from Japan now speak a different language. After in May 2022
Production of the Canon EOS M6 Mark II, the
Canon EOS M200 and also
Canon EOS M50 Mark II have been deleted from Canon’s portfolio. Only the kit of the Canon EOS M50 Mark II with two lenses would the market leader prefer to keep in the program.

If it is to be Canon, you should think about an older 77D or 80D (so one I have) or get into the R system.

Anyway, look for a system where you can use the lenses later. With Canon you can use all lenses with the EF or EF-S Mount to the R, but you need an adapter. The EF-M does not seem to work.

It doesn’t mean that the camera suddenly no longer works. You will get used Objekive as a bargain for the next 10 years and EF and EF-S can also be adapted.

Too old for what?

under an old camera I understand one that is at least 20 years old.

otherwise it depends on what you want to photograph and output

Apart from the fact that megapixels say nothing about quality – 24 are absolutely sufficient if you don’t plan posters in wall size.

better formulated what is more recommended by the two

The DSLM (without mirror) belongs to the future, because the mirrors are no longer developed.

DSLM also typically have a stabilization of the sensor itself and an intelligent autofocus that can identify objects to us. There’s no DSLR.

The M50 is not a reflection camera (DSLR), but a mirrorless (DSLM).

In front of the sensor, mirror reflex cameras have a folding mirror that redirects the image to the optical seeker. When you take a photo, this is briefly folded away and the light falls on the image sensor.

In the case of mirrorless cameras, the mirror is not present, so the light falls continuously onto the sensor. The viewfinder is here a mini display which indicates the image of the sensor.

The advantage of mirror reflex cameras is that the viewfinder image is just optical, so there is no digital sensor or screen in the game. But they are often much heavier and bigger. The searchers in mirrorless cameras are still good, and there is the advantage that you can see the picture exactly as it is recorded.

Qualitatively, it doesn’t make any difference. In both variants, the light falls exactly on the sensor without what is in between.

I would suggest you buy it (also needed, as you save a lot of money) and try to get it right. In the end, the photographer is always strong. But the image quality is great, you don’t have to worry.

Above all, natural photography is a simple area for cameras, as there are no extreme requirements such as sports or wildlife photography.

2018 is brand new. “Alt” would be vlt at DSLRs. 15-20 years, many cameras around 2008 can still be used easily. At spiI’d say nothing more than 10 years.

“alt” is a more silently understood camera and theoretically applies to anyone who has left the loading table.

It is only crucial if it is technically perfect and in the frame of this technology makes good photos in the hand of a good photographer according to its requirements.

a functioning leica from the 30s also makes presentable images today, but a glammed and reefed DSLR which is 2 years old would be ripe for the electrocuted.

No. It has not changed much, except an unused pixel hype.
