In Canada it differs according to the province. There can therefore be no general statement.

For example, I lived in Saskatchewan. There would be the minimum age 16 with the permission of a guardian or 18 without. In addition, you need a class 5 license (i.e. the driver license that is no longer Learners License).

If one makes the test on a machine with 400ccm or less there is a restriction.

With us in the province, motorcyclists were quite rare 😂.

Motorcycle is also starting with the Learners License as with Auto and it follows a step system.

A learning licence. For example, in the case of a car, it was so that after the theoretical examination the so-called class 7 was obtained. They allowed driving in a companion. In parallel, you would have a few mandatory driving hours and could take the practical exam after the earliest 9 months. If they were, then one would have class 5. (The normal car driver). However, there was still a Novice 1 and 2 step system, which was associated with certain specifications. (e.g. no alcohol, only a certain number of persons).

There is also a Learners License on the motorcycle. I don’t know the details. I wasn’t busy with motorcycles over there.
