Hello, I'm traveling to Mexico this year and then to Rio. Since I'm traveling to poor areas, I wanted to ask how I can find someone who can help me with any questions I have.

There are ghettos. Locals don't come out alive. It's not a pony farm. Where it is tourist or business, a lot of police is on the go and it is safer. Just book a tour. They also know when you shouldn't be. Unless you want to be excluded.
