Ask your old boss about your thesis?
I'm a student and wrote my bachelor's thesis at company XY, so I know the manager. I was assured that a master's thesis could also be possible later, but I should maintain contact with my colleagues. Now I'm wondering if I could contact my "old boss" via email to find out about the possibility of writing my master's thesis at company XY and possibly about a student trainee position? Is something like that ethically acceptable, so it seems odd because maybe he's expecting an application? Should I perhaps send him my application documents directly in the email? I'm very inexperienced and hope for your help and support!

You can ask first. If he wants an application, he'll tell you.
So it's okay if I wrote him, right? I don't think that's what happens very often and is normal..? Because I wouldn't get over like I'd use our acquaintance directly.
Totally normal.
