If only one value is given, it's probably the alpha acid content. You need this to adjust the amount of hops in your recipe, depending on the time the hops are boiled, to achieve the desired bitterness (IBU).

Since the amount of alpha acid in a hop variety varies considerably depending on the growing location and vintage, this is an important piece of information.

Sometimes the oil content is also specified. This is also a decisive factor in the strength of the hop aroma, especially the shorter the hops are boiled.
