Can it be wise to only take the re-sit for a university exam?

I'm considering withdrawing from my first attempt at an exam, as I'll be taking three exams one week apart, and they'll be shortly after the end of the semester. Would it make sense to register for the second exam? That way, I'd have significantly more time to study for the exam and would be more likely to pass it (and perhaps even better), but if I fail or am sick, I'd have to wait an entire semester.

I am still in my first semester and am therefore looking for the experiences of students who have already had this experience themselves.

Hi.

I would generally recommend taking exams in the semester they are scheduled for. From my experience, I know that make-up exams aren't always automatically easier, or easier to prepare for, since you have to take just as many exams in the next semester. By the way, three exams a week apart is actually quite generous 😂💜 I only had one day off between each exam in my semester.

But if you really feel more comfortable pushing it, then you should go with your gut feeling. I'd still recommend trying it now, though. Maybe it'll work and save you work for next semester.

Greetings 💘

How many attempts do you have for the exam? – We often have three attempts, and if you "fail" one of those because you didn't have enough time to study, that could quickly be over…

Of course, it might make sense to choose the second date for one exam—because you'll simply have more breathing room. But what if one of the other exams also has to be retaken? Then you'll suddenly have two exams on the retake dates…

It's difficult to give advice on this. However, in my personal experience, I learned the material throughout the entire semester. I was "on topic" for every exam, which is why the exams were never difficult for me. However, if you feel it might help you to thoroughly review the material for one of these exams, then take the time. But don't put off studying for too long!
