Outlook not downloading Gmail emails on 2 computers?

Hello everyone,

Yesterday I had to take care of two friends' computers because their Outlook stopped working.

I deleted your Gmail account in Outlook on both computers and added it again, but unfortunately, I didn't make sure I selected POP3 as the protocol instead of IMAP. This resulted in all emails now downloading on one computer but not on the other, because POP3 then deletes all emails from the server.

Now I'm wondering if I can delete the accounts on both PCs and then add them again using IMAP so that the old emails arrive on both computers.

Or could it be that all emails have already been deleted and I therefore have to manually add the existing emails to the newly added IMAP mailboxes?

Thanks for your help ๐Ÿ‘

The emails should still be on the server despite Pop3.

Although the IMAP always loads a copy and pop3 gets the mails from the server, it has been so for a long time that pop3 mails will be deleted after a certain period of time.

This can of course be set in the account – if something has already been changed here, you may need to contact the support, or export the Outlook data, create IMAP and import the data again. The emails should be loaded again.

I rather do not think that the emails are still on the server, because the default is to delete them at POP3 (in Outlook) – it is necessary to explicitly set it to the device that the emails should remain on the server.

If Web.de does not mark the emails to delete, they will not be deleted either.

As soon as the mails are to be deleted from Outlook, the mails on the Web.de servers are first marked with a prefix that fรนs after x-days for deletion.

Whether Gmail or Web.de makes no difference.

What exactly does Web.de do with GMail? And in the POP3 protocol "mark for deletion" is not provided.

Yeah, I'd be safe on number and the emails, for example, in a so-called. Export PST file (Outlook Data File) that you can easily insert into Outlook for emergency on both PCs.
