Amplifier or pedal?

I've been playing guitar a lot lately and really enjoy it. So I was planning to buy a guitar and an amp. I've been talking to my teacher, who's been playing guitar for years and plays in three bands at once. I've also talked to my brother (who's also been playing guitar for two years) and several people at the guitar store. Now I wanted to buy an amp for around €300, and everyone except my brother said it's great for mini gigs/recording rooms/at home. My brother says I should just get a pedal for less money because it does the same thing as the amp. (I chose one that has a nice metal sound.) Now I don't know what to do…

Oh and sorry for the grammar… it's been a long time since I slept…

Your brother has no idea, sorry. A pedal makes (apart from multi-effect pedals and amp simulations) just a single effect, with an amplifier you usually have an equalizer, distortion effect, and of course the amplifier itself, that is something completely different.

I would buy something like a used “pod go” or a “mooer ge200”.

Many bands play live no longer with real amps so no shame about your head when you do it like this

Can play with headphones or via a system, even at gigs. Normally there is always a system at events.

At the mooer there is even money left for an interface
