Grass ground cover without CO2?

Hello!

Do you know of any ground cover plants that can survive without CO2? I'd prefer grass-like plants. So far, I've only known Staurogyne repens as a ground cover. But that plant isn't grass-like. I also considered (mini) needle rush, but then I heard that it needs CO2 🙁

Thanks for the answers!

Hi.

They all need light

Staurogyne repens is not a real floor decker, rather only under strong light.

Realistic is Sagittaria subulata, especially smaller versions (sometimes var. "parva"/"pusilla" or similar fancy names), this thrives even with weak light and without CO2, but the lawn then grows slowly.

Cryptocoryne parva is also realistic, and (but significantly higher) Cryptocoryne willisii.

Helanthium tenellum can also function. But not with strong shading, and it is more grassy but also a bit more demanding than Sagittaria.

A land plant that does not need carbon dioxide to grow or even only repair? And also grass-like? I only know artificial grass.

Hello liverworstluis,

eg Marsilea spp. , Eleocharis pusilla (parvula), Hemianthus callitrichoides "Cuba", Elatine hydropiper.

best regards

I have always had all plants without CO2 and not just because CO2 is a poison gas for the fish. You just have to shy which plants come clear with your water values.
